Fall Turkey trip on Bentshoe Lakes September 7 to 9 2012

Join us once again for this Fall Festival weekend canoe trip. This year I have booked a group campsite on Bentshoe Lakes near Haliburton off of hwy 118. As usual the food is the theme for this trip, canoeing is secondary making the one short portage to the lake easy. The lake is small but big enough to explore for the day with adjoining lakes if interested. The permit fee will be split equally among the participants. Saturday’s turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be a group effort. The permit limits us to 8 tents and 16 people; I ask that you share a tent on this trip.

Due to the permit restrictions, I will only take reservations and make confirmation by email or phone only. Sorry no on-line bookings.

Queen Elizabeth II Wild lands Prov. Park

This will be a slow pace explore, mark/find portages, look at rock formations and watch for wildlife.
Last years trip report here
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=38103
This will be a beaver pond hopping trip through the area of the highest ridges in the park.
There is no promise that all beaver ponds will be in from year to year, there is always a surprise or two.

I plan on multiple carries on the portages, (my camera stuff alone is one :) )

Minesing Swamp

The Minesing Swamp, centrally located between Barrie and Wasaga Beach, has been identified as the largest and best example of fen bog in southern Ontario. The confluence of the Nottawasaga River with three tributaries provide for an interconnected network of swamps, fens, bogs and marshes. The swamp is an important staging area for thousands of migratory waterfowl, and contains a large heron rookery.

We will enter from Willow Creek, cross the central flood area before joining the Nottawasaga, and follow the river down to Edenvale. A pleasant day’s paddle for canoeists of all skill levels.

Grand River

This very popular annual trip seems to be a great draw for all levels of paddlers, including families. Over the last seven years we have enjoyed perfect weather, portage free paddling, and a social barbeque that has followed our outing. This is a wonderful day to enjoy an easy moving river and to socialize with other WCA’ers. The trip will start in south Cambridge, where we will put in, and then paddle to Paris. We will pass through scenic farm country, negotiate some easy Class one water, and stop for lunch along the way. Those interested are welcome to join us back at our house in Cambridge for some food, beverage, and social time.
