Missinaibi River from Barclay Bay to Mattice

Outing Type →

The Michipicoten/Missinaibi/Moose River corridor is the shortest route between Lake Superior and Hudson Bay. It has been occupied by Natives since 1500-1000 BC, and was used by the Hudson Bay and Northwest Companies as a communication and transport route. Today it is a protected Canadian Heritage River and the Missinaibi River is a Provincial Park.

Upper Missinaibi River, from Barclay Bay to Mattice, is about 210km in distance with 37 rapids / falls that can either be run or portaged. It takes 10 - 12 days to complete. Including the first day driving to Barclay Bay campground in Missinaibi PP and the last day coming back from Mattice, the trip will take about 2 weeks in total.

We will leave at around 7:00am on Saturday, Aug. 10th. It will take about 11 hours drive from Toronto to Barclay Bay where we will camp for the first night and launch the next day. We will use the shuttle service from an outfitter who will drive our cars to Mattice so that we can get our cars after the trip. We will stay at Mattice for one night and drive back home the next day.

Cost:
Park Permits $9.00 a day per person (subject to change)
Gas up and back
Last day lodging at Mattice
Shuttle: $250 - $400 per person depending on number of cars being shuttled and size of the group
A deposit will be required and the amount is subject to the final plan.
