Ski and Snowshoe Along the Dumoine River Feb 6-12,2026

Outing Type →

Please join me for a winter outing to ski and snowshoe along the Dumoine River, as well as engage in learning about the wilderness that surrounds it and wisdom and stories of people that have travelled in these landscapes.

You can become acquainted with recent and not so recent developments in this area thanks to a recent article written by Wally Shaber for the Nastawgan.

This trip is suitable for backcountry skiers and snowshoers who are used to spending a whole day in the wilderness (without cell phone coverage).

Accommodation: rustic cabins and/or a canvas tent with a stove

Cost: $600 (this covers accommodation, membership in Friends of Dumoine; snowmobile support and administration of the trip)

Some of the days, we are travelling between cabins and some days, we are doing a loop out of a cabin. The length of your ski and snowshoe days is always somewhat flexible.

We have a snowmobile support for moving our baggage from hut to hut; and moving participants as needed between cabins and ski trails.

Please email me for more information.

Agguttinni Baffin Ski Tour May 2025_slide show on zoom

Outing Type →

My travel partner and I will share slides from our ski tour to the recently created Agguttinni Territorial Park. The park’s landscape features mountains, ice caps, plains, and five fiords. The area's dramatic sheer granite walls have been attracting attention of climbers for some time and now are becoming more known to other adventurers.

We spent 3 weeks pulling sleds, skiing mainly on sea ice, camping in temperatures between zero to minus 25 Celsius, always aware we are in polar bear country.

This presentation is for those of you curious about this part of Canada and the winter travellers among you who are looking to find companions or ideas for your next winter trip. We will collectively briefly share some other norther winter trip ideas at the end of the call.
