I paddled down the Thelon twice, in 2002 with one friend, and in 2019 with my wife and daughter as part of a guided tour. I have some funny wildlife stories to tell, but also want to compare canoe versus kayak on wilderness trips, and joining a guided tour versus going without.

This first part will cover the 2002 trip that I took my friend Will.
Part 2, a week later, (Jan 26) I will talk about the 2019 trip that was organized and led by Jackpine Paddle.
