Salmon River Access Denied - New Owner

Salmon River Access Threatened

Spring paddlers need to be aware that the traditional put-in to the Salmon River has a new owner who has denied access to paddlers.

The only public paddlers' access (via Gull Creek) to Sheffield Lake rather than the using the previous putin on the sideroad with the parking fee. It is in good shape, with adequate parking on both sides of the new bridge on CR#15.

Spring '11 Nastawgan is here!

From the Editorial section in this issue, by Toni Harting:
"– Colour, at long last, colour! After years
of dreaming and talking about it, and
many months of dedicated actions
(thanks, Aleks Gusev and hardworking
team) you now hold in your hands the
first issue of our beloved journal
Nastawgan printed in colour. For several
months we have been able to enjoy our
journal in full colour as presented digitally
in our website, but finally we can
actually hold and feel the real colour
magazine. Enjoy!"

Rafting Hudson river 7-8 May

I've spent last ten March break vacations sking the Gore Mountain in North Creek, NY. Beautiful, hidden gem of a place, on the shores of Hudson river. Last May, I took delivery of the raft there, which we later paddled down George river. My friends and I took the opportunity to raft Hudson while we were there. It was a blast, so this May we're going for more. Much more!

If you're interested to join us, call me to talk about logistics and cost.
Here's a glimpse of what it looks like:

Winter Tent Rescue

Arduous Winter Trek -->

We rescued our winter tent from that last 18inch snowfall beginning of March, breaking trail 14K more than 24 inches deep, up the Barron River from the bridge (because AFA stopped plowing early), && that beautiful long long Canyon, then sections on thin ice to avoid getting tangled in alders impossibly up to our tits in snow, left at 7 a.m. arrived at 6 p.m.  u should have heard me when I keeled over, ripped the snowshoe bindings right off, pulled various feet muscles  ... got snow up to my armpits, lost 1 glove ... struggling to get out of a crazy angle worse than a beached walrus ... and Frank - 'out of hearing range' @#!!!!!

Frank is very sorry he was too far ahead to ASAP help, because I now need new $$snowshoes !!!  (just kidding, Sherpa Claws are aLwAyS repairable!@#)

Took the winter tent down next morning and trekked 14k back to our car.  As my sled was piled sooo high, it takes 2 people to stop it from falling over ... the person behind lends a hand at bad spots ... I damaged both groin muscles, and even my teeth hurt
now THATZ wilderness tripping !!!

Hilariously AFA had second thoughts and plowed later to Travers+ ... so we did get the tent out the easy way ...

Here's to whining about ugly tripping ... preferably sharing a bottle of Brandy ...  ahahahaaa !!%$!@#

George river film trailer

A team of 5 WCA members rafted the De Pas & George rivers past summer. Oh, it was fun. And no portages!
Here's the brief trailer - a prelude to a movie that i'm working on.
