Volunteers Needed – Paddle the Don – Sunday May 5, 2019

Paddle the Don is an annual paddling event organized by the Toronto Region and Conservation Authority (TRCA). This event helps to promote paddling, raises money for river restoration and increases awareness of conservation and issues affecting the Don River Watershed.

WCA members have been supporting Paddle the Don for many years and it benefits the club to be associated with this significant paddling event. For 2019 we are looking for a total of 4-5 canoes (8-10 paddlers) to oversee the three weirs along the river (two of which are mandatory portages and one which is an optional portage) and the take-out near the mouth of the Don River. Time commitment is from about 7 am – 2 pm. Each WCA canoe will be stationed at one of the weirs to manage the overall operation of the weir on land (river rescues will generally be performed by another safety group).

What’s in it for you? An opportunity to paddle the Don River at no cost (cost to public is $100 per canoe), free snacks and lunch, a cool appreciation gift and the satisfaction of giving back to the paddling community and supporting the WCA.
